Tiwanaku: Spiritual and Political Centre of the Tiwanaku Culture.
The archaeological site of Tiwanaku is located near the southern shores of Lake Titicaca at an altitude of 3,850m. Most of the ancient city has been destroyed, however the monumental stone buildings of the ceremonial centre survive to this day.
The true purpose and age of the site divides opinion which only adds to the mystery of this wonderful archaeological site.
In this image. This beautifully carved statue in the Sunken Temple has become known as the Bearded God but little is known of its true meaning. Some say its a statue of the Inca God, Viracocha.
