Puma Punku is part of a large temple complex or monument group that is part of the Tiwanaku Site. Tiwanaku (500-1000 AD), was the capital of a pre-Colombian society that rose and fell half a millennium prior to that of the Inca Empire. Tiwanaku is located near the southern shores of Lake Titicaca at an altitude of 3,850m. Most of the ancient city has been destroyed, however the monumental stone buildings of the ceremonial centre survive. Believed to be the spiritual and political centre of the Tiwanaku Culture, its true purpose divides opinion lending to the mystery of this wonderful archaeological site. Tiwanaku, Bolivia.
