Machu Picchu is a Inca citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, famous for its sophisticated water and agricultural system, dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, and structures that have astronomical alignments. After decades of scientific and archaeological investigation its true use remains a mystery.
In this image. One of the trapezoidal doors in Machu Picchu typical of Inca architectural style.
